GCEA Negotiated Benefits Provided by the City

    • Medical – City pays 75% to 85% of the premium, depending on the plan

    • Dental – City pays 100% of basic plan premium

    • Vision – City pays 100% of premium only for Regular Members and their families

    • Horizon Employee Assistance Program – confidential services including counseling

    • Holiday – 11 fully paid City Holidays per year

    • Floating Holiday – typically each employee receives fifty two hours of floating holiday time per year to be used at employees discretion; the total number of hours may increase to compensate for holidays on employee’s normal days off.

    • Sick Leave – Each employee accumulates eight hours per month (96 hours per year) of sick leave to be used for illness, doctor appointments, family care, and other related needs. 

    • Family Care Leave – Family care usage is limited to 48 hours per year to care for immediate family members. 

    • Bereavement Leave – Each employee is granted up to 5 days per incident whenever an immediate family member has died or is near death. 

    • Bonding Leave of 6 weeks

  • This is a benefit for all employees! In agreement with all City Associations, the City agrees to compensate employees up to $20,000 reimbursement for tuition & books (based on each employee's 5 years of service). GCEA believes employees who pursue higher education are worthwhile and deserve to be compensated for their skills, leadership, and knowledge they provide (read MOU for guidelines and details).

  • The Public Employees' Retirement Betterment Committee is actively engaged in leading a statewide effort to upgrade the City Employees' Retirement System.

  • Each employee can contribute a portion of their salary into their choice of two 457 deferred compensation plans.  The contributions are payroll deductible, reduce taxable gross income, and are tax deferred.

  • This coverage is available to Regular GCEA members.  The City pays the premium for basic coverage for Regular Members.  Disability coverage pays 50% of the member's monthly salary with a 10% buy-up option (for a combined 60% of monthly salary).  Associate Members can purchase coverage.

  • The GCEA has negotiated with the City to provide a variety of flexible work schedules, including 9/80, 4/10, 3/36, 5/40, and part time telecommute, depending on your position and duties. Additionally, overtime compensation may range between time-and-a-half and double-time, depending on conditions, and may be taken as pay or compensatory time at the employees' discretion.

    • Uniform & Boot Allowance is given for specific job classifications

    • Prescription safety glasses are provided through the Safety Department for specific job classifications

Membership dues

Regular Member:  full time employees pay full dues $15.00 a month ($7.50 a pay period) and receive full benefits, including the right to vote for the GCEA leadership. 

Associate Member: management employees pay reduced dues $4.50 a month ($2.25 a pay period) and receive limited benefits.
